I’ve always thought that the relationships a student develops with their teachers during their educational career stays with them forever. It’s more than learning just facts, but experiencing life lessons that inspire you. In an effort to continue quality learning for our children, the Miami Beach Chamber Education Foundation was created to support our public education system. Part of this process includes highlighting the individuals within our schools who excel in nurturing our youth. On that note, April 24th marks the Foundation’s presentation at Jungle Island of the annual Elayne Weisburd Excellence in Education Award. The event begins at 4:30 pm. One teacher from Miami Beach Senior High School, Treasure Island Elementary School, North Beach Elementary School, Ruth K. Broad K-8 Center, Nautilus Middle School, South Pointe Elementary School, Fienberg Fisher K-8 Center and Biscayne Elementary School – will be nominated for his/her outstanding work. As a graduate of the Miami Beach Feeder Pattern Schools and Miami Beach Sr. High School, I look forward to attending this event.
Additionally, the Foundation recently spearheaded its “Links Project” an initiative with the goal of raising $100,000 from the business community to fund grants designed to provide the necessary supplies for teachers in our schools. The Foundation will sell paper links that will be held by students and members of the business communitythat will stretch for the entire 2,000 foot length between the Chamber’s building and Miami Beach Senior High School. Once the links have all been purchased, Dade Blvd. will be closed and the students from the high school will stand shoulder to shoulder with members of the business community as we make the physical connection of the business community with education represented by the paper links.
