Lian de la Riva

Guardianship, Trusts and Estates attorney Lian de la Riva, a partner with the Florida law firm of Markowitz Ringel Trusty + Hartog, P.A. (MRTH), has been elected 2023 Vice President of Divisions, Sections and Committees of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA). During the HNBA’s annual convention in Minneapolis on September 6-8, Lian and other Officers and Board members were installed. Further, Lian was honored by her colleagues by being selected to participate in the organization’s Latina Executive Leadership Program.

The Divisions, Sections and Committees of the HNBA serve to advance, advocate, educate and empower communities and legal groups on a local, regional and national level. An integral part of the HNBA’s vital work and mission, the Divisions, Sections and Committees provide opportunities for professional development, partnership, networking, education and advocacy.

The Latina Executive Leadership Program is a six-month, elevated leadership program geared towards Latina lawyers who have been in the legal profession for more than 10 years. Lian is one of 16 Latina lawyers nationwide selected for the program. The curriculum focuses on executive legal management, soft skills leadership training and executive coaching. The program includes monthly virtual interactive group presentations and individual coaching to equip members with skills to effectively manage legal teams, capitalize on opportunities for advancement, and navigate barriers to authentic leadership.

Lian is actively involved in the Hispanic legal community, serving on the Board of Directors of the HNBA and the Guatemalan-Maya Center. In March of 2022, she was the recipient of the HNBA’s ‘Top Lawyers under 40’ Award which celebrates and highlights the accomplishments and contributions of HNBA members who have distinguished themselves in the legal profession. Lian served as the 2021/22 Chair of the Young Lawyer’s Division of the HNBA and is a member of the Young Lawyers Section and Elder Law Section of The Florida Bar.

A member of the firm’s Probate & Guardianship group, Lian concentrates her practice in the areas of estate planning, probate and guardianship law. She represents professional fiduciaries, beneficiaries, and incapacitated individuals in all stages of complex administration as well as litigated guardianship, probate or trust matters. Lian also acts as a court-appointed trustee and curator. She holds a J.D. from Florida International University College of Law and a B.A. from Florida International University.

The Hispanic National Bar Association is an incorporated, not-for-profit, national membership association that represents the interests of more than 78,000+ Hispanic attorneys, judges, law professors, legal assistants, law students, and legal professionals in the United States and its territories. Since 1972, the HNBA has acted as a force for positive change within the legal profession by creating opportunities for Hispanic lawyers and by helping generations of lawyers to succeed.
