Recently campers from AK, AZ, CA, CO, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, MI, MD, MO, NC, NH, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, TN, TX, VA, WI, Barbados, Canada, France, Mexico, and Florida have attended camp.
“I’m excited about attending the South Florida Select Football camp again this year, last year I really felt I was getting great coaching and it was good to build relationships with coaches from such prestigious colleges”, said a third year camper and rising Sr. at Miami’s Palmer Trinity School.
Student-athletes and their families from South Florida enjoy the economic benefit of saving travel expense to the North East several times a summer to attend camps. Mike Tracy, co-Camp Director with former Dolphin and 15 year NFL veteran Jeff Dellenbach said “as a 25 year college coach at Hamilton and Hartwick Colleges, I would often work Ivy camps and meet the same student-athlete from South Florida and his family at three different Ivy camps, over three different weekends! I’d often wonder how costly those trips must have been for the families, not to mention the time it takes to travel to the North East so many times.” Families travel expenses alone could exceed $6,000 to $10,000 a summer! SFSFC will provide value to the student-athlete through the concept of bringing coaches from America’s top institutions to their region.
In looking for a solution Coach Tracy approached several Ivy and NESCAC head coaches and inquired to see if they would support a football camp that would help attract South Florida’s top student-athletes to one location and the response was nearly unanimously in favor. With the positive results of the college coaches survey Tracy then found similar positive feedback from many of the regions high school coaches like Coaches Chris Merritt of Christopher Columbus and Rich Stuart of Belen Jesuit. Tracy then sought the assistance of Coach Dellenbach who had a handle on the pulse of high school football in SouthFlorida as well as his strong ties with the area’s NFL veterans like former Dolphins, Tony Nathan, Sam Madison, Terry Kirby, Packers, Antonio Freeman and Siupeli Malamala of the Jets. The SFSFC has been a success from year one back in 2011, providing a smorgasbord of top student-athletes connected to top academic institutions.
