Jr. Orange Bowl Basketball Chair Chuck Little and his committee have once again secured Miami Palmetto High School for the JOBC’s Annual 3-day 31st Annual National Basketball Classic on December 27, 28 and December 30. Games times are 12 noon, 1:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 8 p.m. During the tournament weekend, three visiting teams will participate in what most teams feel are their favorite activity during their stay, the 14th annual Junior Orange Bowl Basketball WOW Center Clinic. This year’s clinic will be held at 10 a.m. on December 27 at the WOW Center, located at 11450 SW 79th Street, Miami, Florida 33173. Participating teams will be Mount Saint Joseph High School, from Baltimore, Maryland; Mount Lebanon High School, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Cornerstone Christian Academy, coming from Willoughby Hills, Ohio. This will be Mount Saint Joseph’s and Mount Lebanon’s second appearance in the clinic. The coaches of those teams going to play with folks at the center are Pat Clatchey, Mount Saint Joseph (Boys); Joseph David, Mount Lebanon (Boys); and Lisa Stopp, Cornerstone Christian (Girls).

The WOW Center is a facility that helps individuals learn community and work skills through Adult Day Training and Job Coaching. The JOBC is proud of the tradition of community service that our teams have shared over the years in this event that was begun with the help of Montverde Academy and their coach Kevin Sutton in 2006. For more information on the event or the clinic, call Chuck at 786-546-3386, (basketball@jrorangebowl.com) or Natalia Laver-Wong, Executive Director, WOW Center at 305-279-7999 (natalia@wowcentermiami.org).

Speaking of the Jr. Orange Bowl, the festival’s Annual Jr. Orange Bowl Parade will take place December 15, Saturday, at 5 p.m. along Miracle Mile. Aside from that fun night for the children, admission is also free for the JOBC’s International Tennis Tournament (Dec. 14-23) and the International Golf Tournament Jan. 2-6, 2020. For more on these and other JOBC events, visit www.jrorangebowl.org.

By the way, the Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s last Gringo Bingo took place December 3 at Clutch Burger in the Gables and benefited the many great programs of the Jr. Orange Bowl Committee. Look for more on that next time. Meantime, on November 20, members of the Coral Gables Woman’s Club many of whom live in the Pinecrest area, held their annual working dinner meeting to help others sorting donated food items and preparing more than 35 food baskets for the families of the children served by the club’s free dental clinic. In addition, toiletries collected throughout the year by members were sorted and made into gift bags for the women of the Agape Ministries. The Club’s Dental Clinic Director Dr, Iris Torres coordinates the delivery of the baskets while also collecting $15 Target gift cards that Santa will deliver to the children at the Dental Clinic’s Annual Holiday Party on December 21, at the clubhouse. If any businesses would like to contribute to the cause, email Gloria@cnews.net.

Until next time, keep making each day count.
