Halloween provided a great way to help a favorite, financially strapped Coral Gables eating spot, Burger Bob’s, recover from the Pandemic. Former marine, Bob Maguire, has made this restaurant next to the Granada Golf Course a place where everyone feels like family.
For residents, golfers, and business leaders, Burger Bob’s is now open for breakfast and lunch every day except Sunday, with Covid protocols in place.
A Halloween party on Oct. 31st helped raise more than $1,850 thanks to the local community, including our own Community Newspapers and Grant Miller, who actually came before the event to do a promotional video. Special thanks to Pete Izagari, owner of Pantry Liquors, for donating wine for the evening affair. When members of the Coral Gables Woman’s Club learned that Club members Rita and Saesha Tennyson and Gloria Burns were planning a fundraiser to help Bob out, they climbed on board as did so many others.
Among the regulars attending the celebration were Lynn Bauer and Hal Wanless, Barbara Lapsley, Kim Davison, Valerie Valenzuela, Arely Ruiz, and two fish who stole the show and won the contest for best costume.
In other service club news, GFWC Coral Gables Woman’s Club will also be holding their monthly Gringo Bingo fundraiser, Zoom meetings and numerous other efforts such as Thanksgiving food baskets for the families of the children who are treated by the club’s free dental clinic. Finally, most of you already know that I took a tumble and had to have emergency surgery last week. Gloria’s Gab will be on hiatus while I convalesce, but I am very much looking forward to seeing you all soon.
