A new children’s chorus is starting this fall in Miami under the direction of Jamie Sutta.
Jamie Perez Sutta, founder and artistic director of The Children’s VOICE Chorusof Miami, earned her Bachelor’s degree in choral music education from Florida State University and a Master’s in vocal jazz performance from the University of Miami. Currently the director of choral activities at Old Cutler Presbyterian, Sutta’s teaching career began in Orlando, where she directed choirs at Ocoee Middle School and her four choral groups received superior ratings for four consecutive years at the Florida Vocal Association’s Music Performance Assessments. While at Ocoee Middle, her choirs were also selected to perform at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center.
Sutta most recently served as an adjunct professor at Palm Beach Atlantic University where she gave voice instruction and directed a vocal jazz ensemble. In addition, she founded and directed a children’s chorus in the preparatory department.
As a performer, Sutta worked nationally and internationally as a Jazz and Contemporary vocalist. She was featured as a soloist in a concert with Ellis Marsalis. Last year, her work in the music video Gotta Keep Reading was featured on the Oprah Winfrey show. She has also had the opportunity to work with Billy Taylor, William Warfield, Carmen Lundy, Tierney Sutton, Nicole Yarling and Wendy Pederson.
The Children’s VOICE Chorus invites boys and girls 8-12 years old who love to sing to participate. Young singers will learn to read music and improve vocal technique while performing the highest quality choral literature. Weekly rehearsals begin in September at Old Cutler Presbyterian church in Palmetto Bay.
Auditions are by appointment. Each audition will be 5-10 minutes duration. Singers interested in joining are asked to complete and bring the audition registration form (found online at <www.childrensvoicechorus.org> along with a $25 registration fee to their audition.
