In other outdoor fun, sadly the Rotary Club of Coral Gables is postponing its Chili Cook Off.
One would have hoped that the Covid news would taper off but the new variants continue to impact events such as this Rotary Club of Coral Gables event. With the uncertainty surrounding the variants, RCCG has opted to postpone its Chili Cook-off, originally set for Halloween, until early 2022. While holding open air events might work, serving food added another challenge for the club. Event chair and RCCG President-Elect Rudford Hamon presented the options recently to the board that finally chose, in an over abundance of caution, to postpone this charity fundraiser in order to insure its success going forward. Look for more on a new date for the event soon.
Speaking of charity, and on a somber note, our hearts go out to the people of Haiti who keep getting hit by one disaster after another. There are many great organizations looking to help, such as Ecoworks International who have a presence on ground in Haiti or possibly Shelter Box USA. Both of these non profits have a great history and have been supported by our local Rotary clubs. There are many organizations that are collecting clothes, canned goods, etc…. all great but a cash donation might work even better to fill real need. By the way, the next Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s Gringo Bingo on September 7, 6 – 9 p.m., at Clutch Burger in the Gables will benefit the club’s charitable work including relief funds directed to Ecoworks and Shelter Box USA. To reserve tickets for Gringo Bingo, email gloria@cnews.net.
Finally, please join me for Gloria’s Gab LIVE shows every Monday at “Cnews.net/facebook”. Check out the latest shows featuring some amazing guests who are making a positive impact on our community. Featured are community leaders who are entertaining, talented, passionate people such as my most recent guests: Coral Gables Community Foundation’s President & CEO, Mary Snow and CGCF Board Chair Laura Russo. This dynamic duo shared with our viewers the amazing projects and programs the community foundation is doing, from giving out more than $220,000 in scholarships annually and helping coordinate the rapid response to the disaster of the building collapse at Surfside to providing ways for donors achieve their philanthropic goals. This organization even brought the spectacular Umbrella Art Installation to the Gables in 2018 that brought so many visitors to South Florida and certainly made an economic impact.
