Physically integrated dance company, Karen Peterson and Dancers (KPD), proudly announce their upcoming dance concert, Repertory Favorites. This production presents a curated selection of popular pieces from their repertoire at Excello Dance Space on May 4 & 5, 2024. Following their successful 5th Annual Forward Motion Dance Festival & Conference, KPD’s dynamic program concludes their spring season before the Pinecrest-based dance company features their latest work in Seoul, South Korea, at the KIADA Korea International Accessible Dance Festival in August 2024.
KPD’s Repertory Favorites is a recurring concert event series crafted to showcase selections from the company’s repertoire, unveil their latest works, and present emerging pieces in development. This year’s program features 3 distinctive dance pieces, each offering a unique exploration of movement and narrative. Set at KPD’s headquarters, Excello Dance Space, nestled in the Falls Industrial Warehouse Area in Pinecrest, Miami, this intimate studio production features 3 showings throughout the weekend, with 2 performances on Saturday and 1 afternoon show on Sunday. Included in the last program on Sunday is a post-show reception and talk-back session, providing the audience with an opportunity to engage in a Q&A with the dancers to delve into their process, inspirations, and the exciting developments for the dance company in the upcoming months.
Among the highlights is KPD’s piece “THE AXIS,” a captivating exploration of the forces that draw individuals together and push them apart, featuring company dancers Sun Young Park, Penelope Huerta, and Jesus Vidal. This piece will have its world premiere at Excello before gracing international stages in Seoul, South Korea, at the KIADA Korea International Accessible Dance Festival in August.
Expressing her excitement for the upcoming concert, Karen Peterson Corash, Founder and Artistic Director of KPD shares, “We’re thrilled to unveil our latest piece to our local community before performing it globally in South Korea. Representing Miami on an international platform is a profound honor, and we’re eager to present this impactful work to audiences worldwide.”
Also included on the program is “IN YOUR SHOES,” where 4 KPD dancers will lead the audience on a spirited journey set to popular blues and pop tunes. The quartet, comprising Marjorie Burnett, Adam Eckstat, Sun Young Park, and Narieka Masla, promises an engaging experience filled with lively rhythms and dynamic choreography. Additionally, audiences will get an exclusive first look at “ENDLESS,” a work-in-progress serving as a poignant reflection on the devastations of war. With a cast featuring Reshma Anwar, Anastasiya Arkin, Sun Young Park, Narieka Masla, Jay Crawford, Marjorie Burnett, and Adam Eckstat, the performance offers insight into the creative process and emotional depth of the work.
Performances are scheduled at Excello Dance Space (8700 SW 129th Terrace, Miami, FL) on Saturday, May 4th at 2 PM and 7 PM and Sunday, May 5th at 2PM, followed by a post-performance reception and talk-back session. Tickets are available for a cash donation at the door on a first-come, first-serve basis due to limited seating.
