Pinecrest Event To Benefit Cystic Fibrosis Coming

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Imagine something that’s fun for the whole family and at the same time helps fund research and care for those afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis! It’s the 10 th annual Kick CF with Bryant McKinnie and Friends Celebrity Kickball Tournament. Since its inception in 2014 it has raised more than a half a million dollars to help find a cure!  Sponsored  by MasTec, the event takes place  on Saturday, March 11th at Palmetto Bay Park.

2023 College Football Hall of Fame Inductee, Super Bowl and College Football National Champion Bryant McKinnie, the celebrity chairperson, joins a long list of celebrity players including Brent Grimes, Kareem Brown, DJ Williams, Roscoe Parrish,  Damien Berry, Vernon Carey, Phil Wheeler, Najeh Davenport, Rashad Fenton and Shemar Jean Charles.

Sponsors are already signing up and teams are forming now. Team members get the opportunity to play against sports legends in a day-long event that features not only sports but entertainment, music and great food!

A list of sponsors already signed up reads like a who’s who of Miami’s best: University of Miami, NAI Miami, MasTec, Allstate Insurance, SCS Engineers, City of Miami Firefighters, Pinecrest Physical Therapy, Robert Half Talent Solutions, Legacy Residential, Link Construction, High Rise Wealth Management,  One Two Tree and Best Buy are all involved. In addition, several local municipalities will have teams including the Village of Palmetto Bay, the City of South Miami and the Village of Pinecrest.

Cystic Fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, sticky buildup of mucus in the body’s organs. In the lungs, mucus clogs airways and traps bacteria causing infections, extensive lung damage and, eventually, respiratory failure. There is no cure.

Cure CF Miami is a local 501c3 family foundation started by the friends and family of Delaney Binker, a 12 1/2 year old living with Cystic Fibrosis. Its goal is to make a difference in the lives of those touched by the disease, and, most important, find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Proceeds will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Event Director Jerry Socherman says the Pandemic changed a lot of things, but not  the Foundation’s effort to find a cure.

Remember the date: Saturday, March 11th beginning at 9:00 AM! Registered, non-playing guests are welcome for a nominal fee of $20 which includes access to all the food stations provided by PubGrill, Giardino Gourmet Salads, Miami’s Best Pizza and a great onsite  BBQ.

Team Registration begins at $650.  Sponsorships are still available.
