Pinecrest Gardens prides itself in being the most family friendly venue offering the very best in cultural programming for children of every age. In the next two weeks you can take your child to see a Disney Nature Film, a theatrical production, or a concert. There are nature-art workshops and classes—all programmed for young people while appealing Pre-school or middle school, Girl Scout Brownie or Explorer.

Disney-Nature Films’ Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos
Friday, October 7, 7:00 p.m.

Pinecrest Gardens will host the first Nature Film Night of the season with a screening of The Crimson Wing: Mystery of the Flamingos, a miraculous story of love, courage and survival of the one of the most beautiful birds on the planet. This film follows the adventures of a single chick in never-before filmed environments. Prior to the movie, our community experts will provide fun and informative activities all about flamingos, in our Hibiscus Room. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., exhibit activities begin at 7:00 p.m. and the movie begins at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 per person and available at the gate.

Little Lizards
Friday Afternoons Beginning October 14

Join us every Friday afternoon at the picnic areas near the play-ground for our brand new Little Lizards Program. This drop-in, informal program will feature different activities every week relating to a monthly theme. Lizards will read, explore, create, and imagine while learning about the wonders of nature. No prior registration necessary. Weather permitting.
Ages: 3 to 10

Our October topic is Butterflies – There is so much to learn about these flying jewels! Did you know that female butterflies can lay up to 100 eggs? That’s a lot of baby caterpillars! In October we will learn about the butterfly lifecycle, look for caterpillars in the garden and learn of ways to help these beautiful pollinators.

The Greater Miami Youth Symphony String Chamber Ensemble will be performing under the direction of Artistic Director Huifang Chen.

They will be performing various selections from Samuel Barber, Edvard Grieg, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Scout Programs Come to Pinecrest Gardens

Girl Scouts can now complete requirements to earn badges at Pinecrest Gardens and we are excited to announce that the Outdoor Art Badge programs are being offered exclusively at Pinecrest Gardens. Our programs are designed to accommodate up to 60 scouts lasting roughly 90 minutes. It is a unique opportunity for scouts to embark on guided exploration through nature, while learning about art of the natural world. Badge days are $ 12.00 per scout which covers full access to Pinecrest Gardens’ amenities. Registration is required through our website. Both Brownie and Junior Badge Experiences are offered on the same date.

Brownie Outdoor Art Creator Badge

Price: $12.00 per scout (includes cost of badge, activity materials, full access to garden amenities and reservation of picnic areas)

As an artist you can walk outside and see colors, shapes and ideas for things you want to create. Find out how you can make your own art outdoors and have fun doing it! Girls will be given the opportunity to learn the role that art plays in nature. We will explore the natural art of Pinecrest Gardens on a “nature detective” walk, You’ll design your own botanical themed art piece and much more. This program meets all requirements for the Outdoor Art Creator Badge.

Junior Outdoor Art Explorer Badge
Saturday, October 15 at 10:00 a.m
$12.00 per scout (includes cost of badge, activity materials, full access to garden amenities and reservation of picnic areas)

This program will help Juniors understand the important role that art plays in nature, and how it impacts the lives of people. Let nature be your inspiration as you explore, create and design different kinds of art. In this program, we will play with light, build bird houses, make rainy day music, and much more. This program is featured in conjunction with the Brownie Outdoor Art Creator Badge.

Adult Cultural and Horticultural Activities at the Gardens

The hARTvest Project in Conjunction with the Pinecrest Gardens Gallery presents… Venezuelan Artist, Roberto Fonfria; It’s Not You, It’s Them

Opening October 12, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Roberto Fonfria is a Miami based contemporary artist and Executive Creative Director at “El Autobus”, an advertising agency located in Wynwood. Influenced by is career as a commercial graphic artist, his point of view and imagery are taken from the advertising world where he resides. In Fonfria’s own words, “I create stories through the random mix of found images, photographs, drawings and words; I combine these elements and build layers and textures using acrylics, common objects and collage. I explore human behavior and social rules with a critic eye and a sense of humor, touching on personal themes such as dreams, fears and memories.”

Join us for the very best Palm Trees 101 you will ever experience. Learn how to use palms in the home landscape and avoid some common problems that include choosing the best palms for the right places, designing with palms and setting up your tropical garden for success.
