Fit Kids Day was created by kids for kids, in coordination with the Pinecrest Parks and Recreation Department, to bring awareness to childhood obesity. The fifth annual Fit Kids Day event will take place on Saturday, May 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Evelyn Greer Park, 8200 SW 124 Street.
The day is tailored to introduce children to sports so they spend more time outside being active while having fun. There will be a color run and obstacle course. To participate, one must register online at < pinecrest-fl.gov/ >.
If you’re not interested in the color run and obstacle course there will also be tennis drills, soccer training, martial arts, healthy food vendors, dance demos and relaxation techniques. Nutritionists will be on hand to educate families about healthy eating and doing food demonstrations.
This year’s Chairman of the Fit Kids Day event in Pinecrest is Garrett Kraft, a 10th grade student at Gulliver Prep. A long time resident of Pinecrest, Garrett has run track, played soccer and tennis, and is now a swimmer on the Gulliver swim club and high school team. He has been involved with Fit Kids day since its inception, and he is now the Chairman for the Pinecrest event.
“I like being involved with Fit Kids Day because I know how important it is to be active and to stay healthy,” said Garrett. “This is an event that reminds families of fun ways they can stay fit and eat well. And it brings attention to obesity, which is an important issue in the United States.”
Garrett has eight Ambassadors assisting him this year. Kayla Kraft, Wyatt Kraft, Cassandra Kraft, Sam Legaspi, Anthony Legaspi, Jack Poppell, Olivia Hernandez, Megan Shoffner and Ethan Matzner. This year’s event has the most vendors we’ve ever had. There will be a Color Run and a 68 foot obstacle course. It should be an amazing event, reminding kids and adults to stay active, eat well, and be healthy.
