Entrepreneurs’ Organization — South Florida (EO-SOFLO) recently hosted an event with celebrity chef Jason Wang and Andrew Zimmern of The Travel Channel where members discussed business, branding and bizarre food. Zimmern is the star of “Bizarre Foods America” in which he samples slithering, slimy and otherwise strange cuisine. “It’s an interesting entrepreneurial lesson to see someone build a career, business and global brand based on eating bizarre dishes,” said Barry Kates, Pinecrest resident and president-elect of EO-SOFLO.

“It helps that Andrew is a very smart and engaging guy, as well as a fearless eater.” Kates’ company, Innovative Events, coordinated the gathering for EO-SOFLO, was held at the Khong River House in Miami Beach.

EO-SOFLO has about 160 members in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties whose businesses account for more than $1 billion in annual revenue and 25,000 jobs in the area. In addition to presenting frequent peer-topeer learning and experience forums for members, EO-SOFLO promotes business growth and fosters entrepreneurship in the region. It is an active partner with the University of Miami Launch Pad, the Eugenio Pino Global Entrepreneurship Center at Florida International University, and other programs. The organization also supports numerous philanthropic causes throughout South Florida.
