Many of us think that before we can impact others, we must be a finished product. We must be an accomplished public speaker, a best-selling author on Amazon, or professional athlete before anyone will listen to us. This is NOT THE CASE! People want to hear from us where we are now, at this very step of our journey. But, instead of putting ourselves out there to be of service to others, we question why anyone would care to hear our story. News flash…we are not unique! We are going through the same trials and tribulations as the next person. The only difference is that some of us appear more polished to the outside world. That doesn’t make one person any better than the next, it simply makes them who they are.

By sharing our story, we are doing two things: one, opening our hearts to both give and receive love and two, helping someone on their journey. We have no idea what others are battling mentally, emotionally, or spiritually on a day to day basis. So, why not meet them where they are and share what we have been through. We will never know if the inner demon we battled last year is the same one our co-worker is currently struggling with if we refuse to open our hearts. Or, on the flip side, by opening up we might discover that same co-worker has a nugget of wisdom that can help us with our current situation.

What makes us unique creatures of God is living in our state of authenticity. Each of us were given special gifts and talents by God specifically so we can use them to impart love and joy to others. Letting our authentic selves shine through is what will help others, not having all the answers. When we live in our state of authenticity, we are living in the present and all our interactions stem from a place of love and security. Security in knowing we are enough. Security in knowing that we are love. And security in knowing that we are exactly where we need to be at this moment in time.

And for all my perfectionists and approval seekers out there, I know this is a hard concept to grasp, but it is true. The next time you feel “less than” for something you didn’t accomplish, reach out to someone else and help them on their journey. I guarantee you that it will give you a fresh perspective of your situation and take away any feelings of inadequacy.
