St. Louis Catholic Community Launches 2020 Festival for the Poor

Non-profit agencies to receive 100 percent of the profits

According to Proverbs 22:9 in the Bible, “Happy is the generous man, the one who feeds the poor,” and St. Louis Catholic Community in Pinecrest, FL, will do just that in addition to clothe, counsel and house the underprivileged in our community with its annual Festival for the Poor, which takes place March 20th-22nd.

“Our annual 3 day festival is a fun, family-friendly way where our community comes together to raise money for a number of local organizations that rely on our funds to help them provide programs for those who are less fortunate,” says Mari Alvarez, this year’s event coordinator. “Putting this event together has been a beautiful experience. It has given so many of us the opportunity to promote fellowship all while giving back to those in need.”

The three-day event, which is approaching its 45th year in existence, has raised more than $2 million, with 100 percent of the profits having been contributed to non-profit agencies throughout Miami-Dade Community including Habitat for Humanity, Camillus House, Kristi House, PATCHES, Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Project Cradle, A Safe Haven for Newborns and St. Ann’s Mission, to name a few.

Parishioners and friends have donated thousands of hours organizing and planning the event that will kick off with “Food Truck Friday” and a “golf cart round-up” on Friday, March 20th  from 6-10pm which will inaugurate the weekend’s festivities. The next two days will be filled with a number of exciting things like carnival rides, games, laser tag, a spring bazaar filled with local vendors, a 5k Run/Walk, a variety of delicious food booths, a raffle with cash prizes,  silent auction, a car show, domino tournament, live entertainment acts, and much more!

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together in a safe, family-friendly environment where we can do good all while having a good time,” says Mari Alvarez. “I look forward to seeing everyone there!”

Open to the public Friday, March 20th – 6-10pm; Saturday March 21st 11am-10pm; and Sunday March 22nd 11am-6pm. Our 5K Will take place on Saturday, March 21st at 7am and the silent auction will be held on Saturday March 21st from 11am-6pm.
