As the calendar flips to 2014, the Miami Hurricanes men’s and women’s basketball teams begin their drive for an ACC championship. What better way to start the New Year right than by joining us at BankUnited Center for men’s and women’s basketball. The slate of games on tap in Coral Gables is tremendous.
How important is home court advantage in the ACC? Last year, BankUnited Center was one of toughest road venues in the conference as the Hurricanes combined for a 15-3 home record in January, February and March. That home court advantage was made possible by the tremendous fan support the Hurricanes received.
Head coach Katie Meier and @MiamiWBB open 2014 on New Year’s Day at home against the Penn Quakers before opening ACC play on the road at Wake Forest. On the men’s side, head coach Jim Larranaga’s squad begins its defense of its 2013 ACC Championship with road trips to new ACC rival Syracuse, followed by a trip to Tobacco Road to face the North Carolina Tar Heels. Florida State comes to Coral Gables twice in January.
First, the women’s team hosts the Seminoles on Jan. 9, then the men host FSU on Jan. 15.
Of course, the two big circled games on the calendar in January: Jan. 22 MBB vs. Duke and Jan. 30 WBB vs. Duke. Last season, Coach L and the men handed then-No. 1 Duke a 27-point loss and Coach Meier and the women beat No. 4 Duke at home by four. Both electrifying wins were aided in part by the tremendous home court advantage and game day atmosphere created by our fans.
