I am honored to take the helm later this month upon Alana Perez’s retirement. Pinecrest Gardens is such a unique and special place with a rich history in our South Florida community. Over the last decade the unique botanical garden has become a cultural hub offering year-round educational programs, family recreational activities, festivals and high quality visual and performing art shows serving all of Miami-Dade and visitors from beyond.
Now more than ever, access to nature and open space is essential to our well-being. I am honored to have the opportunity to build on the authenticity and expertise of the institution’s staff and community members and lead the Garden in reaching its greatest potential – as a place where people of all backgrounds and abilities can appreciate and learn about the environment, engage in the arts, experience innovative programming, celebrate history, build community, and make their own lasting memories.
My appointment comes at an exciting time in the Gardens’ history with the unveiling of the newly constructed Upper Garden Project. It is a pivotal moment to evolve and grow the Gardens as it moves closer to becoming a premier South Florida destination for family entertainment and recreation. I am also proud to be contributing to the growth of the newly established nonprofit, Friends of Pinecrest Gardens, whose mission is to raise much needed funds for special needs and environmental programming as well as sustaining the horticultural, preservation and cultural arts initiatives at the Gardens. It is through the advancement efforts of Friends of Pinecrest Gardens that the new Upper Garden, with its inclusive playground, mini zoo, sensory garden, and inspiration center, will deliver a world-class facility where children of all abilities can laugh, learn and play.
To keep the momentum, I look forward to meeting our neighbors, patrons, and visitors at one of our upcoming “happenings.”
