The Juvenile team is a critical component in the wheels of juvenile justice pushing the community forward. With a staff of 75 dedicated employees, the Juvenile Department processes a myriad of case types which include Delinquency, Dependency, Family, Substance Abuse, Domestic Violence, and the victims of commercial sexual exploitation and labor trafficking.
For Delinquency cases, which involve minors alleged to have committed a criminal offense under the Florida Statutes, the Juvenile Clerk team opens and maintains the official court file, records all hearings, issues and quashes warrants, supports the courtroom by managing exhibits, swearing in witnesses, and documenting judicial rulings. The Clerk team also ensures that all parties are properly notified of hearing dates and court requirements.
In Dependency cases, where children may have been abused, abandoned, or neglected, the Clerk team works closely with judges, the Department of Children and Families, and legal advocates to manage records with the highest level of confidentiality and efficiency. These records are often critical in determining safe and stable outcomes for vulnerable children.
The Clerk team also processes Marchman Act petitions, which seek court-ordered assessment or treatment for minors with substance abuse issues. By ensuring timely processing and accurate documentation, the Clerk’s Office supports the goal of early intervention and recovery.
At every step, the team at Juvenile Court ensures that Juvenile proceedings are properly filed, legally compliant, and accessible to authorized parties. I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to the dedicated team for their commitment to this challenging and sensitive work. Through their efforts, the Juvenile team helps uphold due process, protect children’s rights, and support the broader mission of Juvenile Court in Miami-Dade County.
