Pinecrest Gardens hosts Official 50th Anniversary Rocky Horror Screening with Costume Contest
Pinecrest Gardens will celebrate a cult classic when it hosts an official 50th anniversary interactive screening of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” on Friday, October 3, complete with a costume contest and VIP experience.
The 1975 gender-bending musical comedy-horror began as a box office disappointment but found new life at midnight showings. It became the longest-running theatrical release in movie history and spawned a global phenomenon.
To many Rocky Horror fans, this movie is a rite of passage. We are thrilled to be part of the official 50th anniversary celebration, giving fans a chance to relive the magic and newcomers the opportunity to experience it for the first time, the way it was meant to be, with an audience that is ready to sing, dance and have a blast.
The evening begins at 7 p.m. when gates open at the 14-acre botanical garden. VIP ticket holders can enjoy an exclusive cocktail lounge from 7-8 p.m., featuring meet-and-greets with costumed cast members from the interactive live performance accompanying the movie screening, as well as signature drinks, popcorn, and preferred seating in the historic Banyan Bowl amphitheater.
At 8 p.m., attendees can compete in a costume contest with cash prizes of $100 for first place, $75 for second and $50 for third. The interactive screening of the newly restored 4K version begins at 8:45 p.m. with special guest introductions.
Attendees are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite characters and bring props for the traditional call-backs and audience participation that have made Rocky Horror screenings legendary worldwide.
Ticket prices range from $15 for general admission online to $45 for VIP experiences. Pinecrest Gardens members receive a discounted admission at the gate with membership card and ID. Participation in the costume contest is $10 and contest winners are eligible for cash prizes.
The film is rated R and requires adult accompaniment for viewers under 17. Parking is complimentary.
Tickets are available at pinecrestgardens.org/rockyhorror.
