The Village of Pinecrest marks its 30th anniversary of incorporation this spring with two community events that connect residents to the history of their home.

Pinecrest Bike Day opens the yearlong celebration on Saturday, March 7, from 8 to 11 a.m. at Evelyn Greer Park, 8200 SW 124th St. The free event features a guided two-mile ride led by Pinecrest Police officers, plus family-friendly routes, bounce houses, a bike obstacle course, food vendors and a DJ. Bring your own bike and helmet. Register in advance at vopbikeday.eventbrite.com for a chance to win a new bike.

Anniversary programming continues Saturday, March 21, with Spring Garden Day at Pinecrest Gardens, 11000 Red Road. The family event features a garden-wide scavenger hunt, DIY bouquets at the flower bar, poetry fun with O, Miami, harvest tours, bubble shows and animal interactions. Admission is $8 in advance and $10 at the door. Pinecrest Gardens members get free admission. Tickets are available at pinecrestgardens.org.

“Thirty years ago, residents chose to create a government closer to home,” said Mayor Joseph M. Corradino. “This anniversary is a chance to reflect on what that decision has built and where we are headed next.”

In the early 1990s, residents organized to form a new municipality focused on local control, public safety, park preservation, and infrastructure improvements. Led by founding Mayor Evelyn Greer and community advocate Gary Matzner, voters approved incorporation in 1995, and the Village Charter took effect in March 1996.

Thirty years later, Pinecrest serves more than 18,000 residents and operates 10 parks totaling approximately 100 acres. Pinecrest Gardens, formerly Parrot Jungle and purchased by the Village in 2002, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Public safety remains a central focus. In 2025, the Pinecrest Police Department recorded the lowest crime rate since its incorporation. Officers will play a visible role in Bike Day, reinforcing the department’s community-oriented approach.
