Voices for Children and Heat Foundation celebrate community

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

After a four-year hiatus, Voices for Children is partnering with the Heat Foundation to bring back its highly anticipated Party For A Cause fundraiser. Supporters gathered at the Kaseya Center on June 22, for an amazing evening of fun hosted by Stuart Fort, Sophia Baker and Victor Pulido. This fundraiser brought together emerging philanthropists for a night filled with dancing, cocktails and delicious bites with proceeds benefitting critically needed support and advocacy for abused, abandoned, and neglected children in Miami-Dade’s foster care system.

Kudos to Voices for Children’s CEO Kadie Black, Chair Kira Grossman, and the board for guiding and supporting this important work. CGWC installed 140 orchids at its property June 24 as part of the club’s Centennial celebration projects and Fairchild’s Million Orchid Project. Members, friends, and orchids lovers gathered in the early morning at the clubhouse to be educated on the proper placement and installation of the orchids by Dr. Jason L. Downing, an orchid biologist at Fairchild Tropical Gardens who leads the project. This is one of many events and activities this very active woman’s club, now 100 years old is planned. For one thing, they are selling bricks that will line the pathway to the clubhouse entrance that are very affordable and a great way to honor someone or even memorialize a special event held at the clubhouse, which is a beautiful venue for weddings, quinces, anniversary parties and more.

On the entertainment front, Actors’ Playhouse brings us Defending the Cavewoman, a great one-woman show starring award-winning actress Lindsey Corey. Actors’ Playhouse Artistic Director David Arisco is directing this exciting United States premiere, a show that digs into the female mind and debunks stereotypical myths about how women think that is sure to entertain. The production runs July 19 – August 6, 2023, with performances Wednesday – Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. For tickets or information, visit www.actorsplayhouse.org.

Finally, in other news, summer brings us lots of choices for vacation fun. After experiencing a cruise on NCL’s PRIMA launched last year, I can only imagine the wonders that await NCL’s latest addition to their fleet, the VIVA, that will sail out of Puerto Rico. On June 23, NCL held a celebration at Marlins home loanDepot Park to reveal the name of VIVA’s godparent, Luis Fonsi. Fonsi, a Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and actor best known for his record breakout hit, “Despacito,” was a great pick to represent the ship scheduled to launch this year in Miami. Look for more on this celebration next time.

Until next time, share your talents, count your blessings and not your challenges, and make a difference.
