Westminster Christian School (WCS) juniors Ian Poveda and Sophia Poveda were honored during the Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrinement weekend in Canton, Ohio for being among the 20 finalists for the U.S.Army/Pro Football Hall of Fame Award for Excellence.
The award honors the nation’s top sophomore, junior and senior high school male and female athletes who excel academically, athletically and are active in their communities.
Twenty finalists were named from more than 4,000 applications received from around the country.
In the spring, the two students were honored by Hall of Famer and Miami Dolphin great Bob Griese who presented them with their Awards for Excellence in front of the Westminster student body. Ian is a member of Westminster’s Varsity Boys Volleyball team. Sophia is a member of Westminster’s Varsity Girls Volleyball and Basketball teams.
