Alhambra Orchestra presents…
A Journey from Broadway to Hollywood
Sunday, February 28, 7:30 p.m.
Miami’s own Alhambra Orchestra, a complete symphony ensemble, brings you a memorable evening of popular selections from blockbuster movies and hit stage shows. This evening of pure entertainment welcomes to the Banyan Bowl stage the beautiful and talented Concert Pianist, Mia Vassilev, performing Gershwin’s “jazzy” Concerto in F with full orchestra. This is an evening that fills the air with the music Americans treasure most, and a concert that audiences of all ages and levels of music knowledge and appreciation can enjoy. Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children 6-18 years of age and FREE to kids 5 years and younger.

Orchestra Miami Presents…
Beethoven on the Beach

Orchestra Miami is an orchestra in residence at Pinecrest Gardens. Founded in 2006 by Artistic Director Elaine Rinaldi, Orchestra Miami has quickly established itself as an important part of Miami’s vibrant cultural community. The Orchestra has presented the finest in classical, symphonic, Latin jazz and opera, with some of the most important and recognized names in the world of music. Its commitment to community and education is reflected in its series of concerts. Their annual Beethoven concert features the 45 musicians of Orchestra Miami featuring solo cellist, Ian Maksin, performing Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations, followed by Beethoven’s glorious Symphony No. 3 in E Flat Major, Op. 55, also known as the “Eroica” Symphony. This concert is FREE of charge, but a $10 donation to Orchestra Miami would be appreciated.

Miami Dade Public Schools present…
Taste of the Tropics
Opening and Awards Ceremony
Thursday, March 3, 6-8:00 p.m.
Whether you are familiar with the areas of Miami or not, the city emits an ambiance of tropical culture. This thematic exhibition allows students to examine Miami’s nuances while viewing it like a true native as they explore it through the use of various media such as, but not limited to: drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media…etc. Miami’s natural waterways, mangroves, palm trees, small islands, seagulls, sultry sea breezes, the sounds of Biscayne Bay lapping at the shore, flora, fauna and sunsets that paint the sky a thousand shades of tangerine and lavender are but a few of those tropical wonders explored and interpreted through this student exhibition. Taste of the Tropics is a juried exhibit by Miami-Dade County Public School Students in grades K-12.

Nature Film Night presents…
Disney Nature’s Wings of Life
Friday, March 4th, 7:00 p.m.
Join us at The Garden for a screening of Disney Nature’s Wings of Life. This film is a stunning adventure full of intrigue, drama and mesmerizing beauty. Narrated by Meryl Streep, this intimate and unprecedented look at butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, bats and flowers is a celebration of life, as a third of the world’s food supply depends on these incredible – and increasingly threatened – creatures. Wings of Life tells the story of the delicate relationship between flowers and the Earth’s pollinators. Our community experts, including IFAS extension, North American Butterfly Association, and more will bring activities to engage the audience on the topic of pollinator conservation. Gates open at 6:30pm with exhibits beginning at 7:00pm, followed by the movie at 8:00pm. Tickets are $5.00 at the door.

EDUCATION
Creative Crafts

Kids will have fun creating garden crafts to take home after each class. During class time, parents can enjoy shopping at the Pinecrest Farmer’s Market which is just steps away from the crafts workshop area. All classes are taught by VSAFL’s certified Teaching Artist Yvette Cotera. Enrollment is limited to fifteen children per class and the fee is $16 per class which includes all materials and entrance to the botanical garden, petting zoo and Splash ‘N Play! Sunday, March 6: Garden Bouquet Still Life (Coloring a still-life bouquet of Spring flowers & weird wiggly giant seed pods using oil pastels on black paper.)

Sunday, March 13: Egg & Rock Decorating (Decorating with crayons, rubber bands, dyed cracked egg shells & food coloring. Plastic egg hunt among the giant Banyans.)
