Lately, I’ve been neglecting the arts, but a recent Tony Awards winner’s mention of local theater’s importance really resonated with me. Around Mother’s Day, I had the chance to see The Buena Vista Social Club on Broadway, and like anyone with Cuban family, it was emotional – I cried. The music is a beautiful blend of Cuban styles from the 1940s, and their story is fascinating. Brought together by Ry Cooder, their studio album became an international hit. Wim Wenders’ documentary perfectly captures their journey and music.
The stage musical, which premiered on Broadway in 2025, won several Tony Awards and tells the story of the original group. Expect it to be a coveted ticket when it comes to Miami and bring your Kleenex.

One exciting upcoming event is Mo Amer’s comedy show at the Fillmore on August 2. The show has received critical acclaim, with a 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes for both seasons.
