I’d like to wish everyone in Pinecrest and all around the radius a happy, healthy and successful New Year on behalf of the Alper JCC.
How are those resolutions coming along? Don’t feel bad, some of us are still on our 2014 resolutions. Plus, at the J we have you covered.
From spending more time with family to learning something new or finally getting that push for consistency at the gym, our diverse programming can help fulfill those goals and more.
Our resolution this year is to help you keep yours and you don’t have to do it alone. As humans we tend to feel the need for inspiration, whether it’s a role model or just that extra push from a friend. That is why we are offering a free month for you and a friend just for signing up together.
Each of you will also get two free orientation sessions with a nationally certified personal trainer, plus unlimited group fitness classes to get that medicine ball rolling this year. The enlightenment doesn’t stop at the fitness center.
Adults, feel free to mentally and physically check in to one of our many adult programs and classes. Offering both continuing programs and one-time workshops, you will definitely enlighten yourself with information transferable to real life. One upcoming presentation will help answer questions and educate you on the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes. Medical Marijuana – What Happens Now? takes place Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. in the Art Gallery on campus. Our ongoing programs include Meditate on It, which is a twice-a-month group session where you can break away from the jagged edges of your everyday life. You will be encouraged to become calmer, more focused and have a clearer way of thinking. Like many of our groups, this is free, but a $5 donation is encouraged for this session. Women’s Group is a wonderful circle where women can meet and share experiences, thoughts, passions and camaraderie. Women’s group is considered by many to be the foundation for many new friendships and adventures.
Life is filled with many challenges, but more and more grandparents have now been given the extra challenge of raising their grandchildren. Grandparents Raising Grandkids is an organized group where fellow grandparents share experiences and wisdom to help one another with this challenge. With all that is going on nowadays on our lovely planet, we bet you have a lot to say about current news and events. Our Contemporary News and Views is just the place to do that on a weekly basis. Guests discuss local, national or global events and trends with the optional aid of a newspaper or magazine article in this lively discussion.
If you would prefer to watch and listen rather than discuss, get tickets to the Russell Theater on campus and check out Stars of David, a funny and captivating new musical revue celebrating the lives of your favorite Jewish public figures, with original music by Broadway’s finest composers and lyricists. Show times are Jan. 28-31 at 7:30 p.m. and Jan-Feb. 1 at 2 p.m.
Whether you come by the JCC to check out our Fitness Center with a buddy for the New Year or to see a show in our Cultural Arts Center, if you haven’t taken a tour of our campus, now is the time to do so. You will surely wonder why you haven’t checked us out sooner. Call 305-271-9000, visit our website www.alperjcc.org or stop by 11155 SW 112 Ave. for more information.
Here’s to a strong 2015, Miami!
