Zoo Miami donates $10,000 to help zoos in UkraineZoo Miami is donating $10,000 to help zoos in Ukraine through the European Association of Zoos and Aquarias (EAZA). The EAZA is coordinating the emergency collection of relief funds for our colleagues in Ukrainian zoos currently struggling to keep animals safe amid Russian attacks.

Funds raised will be used to assist Ukrainian zoos to continue to provide food and care to animals in conditions of relative welfare and safety, as well as providing support for care staff and management at the zoos. The EAZA has direct contact with Myikolayiv Zoo, Kharkiv Zoo and Kyiv Zoo, and indirect contact with other zoos via the Ukrainian Zoo Association and EAZA Members. Funds will be allocated on the basis of need according to the requests received from zoos and will be distributed to recipients through channels subject to reasonable due diligence. A full report on the fund and its use of donations to support Ukrainian zoos will be issued in due course.

Zoo Miami joins a growing list of 38 Members and other Zoological Institutions worldwide who are making contributions.

“We are grateful to the EAZA for establishing this emergency fund during this extremely distressing and challenging time,” said Zoo Miami Director Will Elgar. “We hope that this small gesture helps provide the support needed for the people and animals of Ukraine. We hope for peace to prevail soon.”

Any help you can provide would be received with gratitude. EAZA commits to full transparency on the collection and distribution of funds for Ukraine: 100% of your donation will go to help Ukrainian zoos.
