Grove arts fest earns top SUNsational awards

The Coconut Grove Arts Festival won six awards in the Florida Festivals and Events Association (FFEA) SUNsational Awards competition, presented at the association’s 20th anniversary convention and trade show at Walt Disney World in Orlando.

The competition, which draws entries from the 250 leading events in the state, awarded the Coconut Grove Arts Festival four Gold/First Awards in categories for events in the $150,000 and Over budget category — Educational Program, Commemorative Poster, PR/Marketing Campaign and T-Shirt Design. The Arts Festival also received two Silver/Second Place Awards for Program/Event Guide and Social Media.

Making its debut at the 2014 Arts Festival was the New & Emerging Artist program, which allowed five first-time artists 18-29 years old to showcase their work at minimal cost. Admission into the category matched the five young artists with an experienced participant and provided educational workshops during a symposium prior to the event. Alexander Mijares, a Miami native and South Florida artist celebrity, designed the colorful and energetic Arts Festival commemorative poster titled “La Brisa.”

Kiskinis Communications and Aymara & Associates designed and executed the Arts Festival’s 2014 PR/Marketing Campaign, while Kiskinis Communications also executed the social media program.

The Coconut Grove Arts and Historical Association is a non-profit that helps fund year-round arts programs. The association also maintains the Coconut Grove Arts Festival Gallery and presents special exhibitions throughout the year from its location at Mayfair in the Grove. Since its inception in 1963, the association has awarded more than $100,000 in scholarships to students who attend fine arts programs in local schools.

The Coconut Grove Arts Festival has consistently been named one of the best fine arts festivals in the nation by Sunshine Artist Magazine and remains the top voted outdoor arts festival in the history of the magazine’s 200 Best.
