Miami Palmetto High School senior Amanda Morgan found herself struggling her freshman year so she developed a system to help her study.

“I procrastinated on everything,” she says. “I noticed a drastic change when I stopped procrastinating.”

Thinking that other students might benefit from learning how to manage their time and schoolwork, she created Project Time Management.

“I thought it was fun to give the tools to other kids,” she says. “It aims to gives kids the tools they need to be successful in an efficient way so they can reach their full potential.”

To learn how to deal with her study issues, she researched helpful time management websites.

“It’s geared toward school but could be used in general,” she says. “Before school, after school, when trying to get all your projects done because I wanted the project to be as helpful as it could possibly be and allow others to get things done in the most efficient way possible.”

One of the keys to accomplishing her goals was learning how to get started.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do, because I don’t know what to do first,” she says.

She teaches the students how to plan out the timelines and how to tackle what is the most work.

“It’s all about planning,” she says.

One of the websites she uses is Trello.com.

“You can visibly see what’s due, which is what helps, instead of trying to keep it stored in my head,” she says. “I think that helps me. This is due tomorrow, this is due next week.”

She gave multiple presentations at Palmetto Middle School last year and is going to start doing it again this school year.

“What I’ve done, I’ve done lectures in eighth grade classrooms,” she says. “We did different activities. And we did interactive things as well as lecture them and gave them specific tips.”

She even gives out handouts.

Morgan wanted to work with eighth grade students because she wants to give them the tools to study before they reach high school.

“So, they go into high school and they are ready to go,” she says.

Outside of school, Morgan volunteers with Friendship Circle, helping teach the kids in the Monday afternoon Zumba classes.

She has been volunteering with Friendship Circle since tenth grade.

At school, she’s the president of the Jewish Student Union, which has grown to 200 members.

“We celebrate the Jewish holidays and do things like blow the shofar or have latke eating contests,” she says. “You do not have to be Jewish to be involved. We welcome everyone.”

She does marketing for the student senate.

“I help post the activities on Instagram,” she says. “And we inform students on different events going on and deadlines, too.”

This year she’s a photo editor on the yearbook staff.

Morgan has applied to a number of schools including Tulane, Wake Forest, the University of Florida, Syracuse and the University of Michigan. She’s already been accepted to Penn State.

She plans to major in communications or journalism.

“I would like to be involved in multiple media outlets and cover various topics,” she says.

Currently, she’s taking a creative writing class at school that she loves.

Morgan is a member of the National Honor Society, the secretary of the National English Honor Society, PAWS and Interact. She’s a member of the Cabinet and the FIA Capstone Program. She participated in a University of Miami journalism program and the Columbia Scholastic Press Association Classes with the yearbook staff.
