Biscayne National Park Welcomes New Citizens with U.S. Army Band’s Brass Quintet

Biscayne National Park and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services are hosting ceremonies welcoming dozens of new citizens on Friday, October 30, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. for adults and 1:00 p.m. for kids. The U.S. Army Band’s Brass Quintet is performing a mini-concert from 9:30 to 10 a.m., and also performing music during the adult ceremony. The ceremonies take place at Convoy Point on the grounds of the Dante Fascell Visitor Center, 9700 SW 328 Street, 9 miles east of Homestead. The public is invited to witness these stirring ceremonies and to take part in the unfurling and folding of a giant American flag.

“National parks preserve the natural and cultural wonders of this great nation,” said Superintendent Brian Carlstrom. “Welcoming new citizens in such an amazing place is suitable to their wonderful journeys, qualities and characters.”

Biscayne National Park, the largest marine park in the national park system, partners with the Kendall Field Office of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to welcome new citizens. Both ceremonies feature the unfurling and folding of a giant American flag.

New and current citizens alike can begin to celebrate the Centennial of the National Park Service. For new citizens the national park journey begins in Biscayne National Park. It may carry them to the 407 other national parks around the country including Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Great Smoky Mountains, Statue of Liberty and birth home of Martin Luther King, Jr.
