Carnaval Miami/Kiwanis Cooking Contest was held March 5, 2015 at Winn Dixie Supermarket located at 3250 Coral Way. Meeting celebrities such as Channel 7’s Belkys Nerey (special guest judge) and Chef Pepin (Emcee) added to the excitement for the contest participants. Contest winners for the adult-vocational category were first place winner, Bianca Moise (pictured here), and second place winner, Sean Upchurch. Both are students at Homestead Job Corps Center (HJCC) and study Culinary Arts through an educational collaboration HJCC has with South Dade Technical College. Chef Myrna Betancourt (2014 Miami-Dade County Public Schools Teacher of the Year) and Chef Pablo instructs the culinary classes which are held at Chapman Partnership, a community partner.
