The biggest and most exciting adoption event is coming to a South Florida shelter near you! On August 15, 2015, the Humane Society of Greater Miami and several other shelters across South Florida and the United States will be waiving adoption fees for its pets in honor of “Clear the Shelters” day. This one-day, nationwide event was initiated last year in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in an effort to place all sheltered pets into forever homes. Today, the event is organized in partnership with NBC Owned Television Stations and Telemundo Stations Group and sponsored nationally by Overstock.com. Last year, Clear the Shelters event resulted in the adoption of more than 2,200 homeless animals. This year, we hope we can surpass that number through the involvement of South Florida shelters.
“We are very eager to be a part of such an amazing event that focuses on placing as many animals as possible into permanent, loving homes,” says Laurie Hoffman, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Greater Miami. “We would love nothing more than to “clear the shelter” and see each and every one of our animals go home with their forever families. To know that they can finally enjoy the simple pleasures in life, like a cuddle on the couch or a car ride to their favorite park, would be such a gratifying feeling. Thanks to this great effort spearheaded by NBCUniversal-owned TV stations, a happy tail ending is that much closer for our sheltered pets.” More than 400 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are cared for by the Humane Society of Greater Miami every day.
Clear the Shelters is sure to be a day full of fun and happiness at the Humane Society of Greater Miami. Besides waived adoption fees for dogs and cats, there will be food, refreshments and music for the whole family to enjoy. The boutique will also be offering special discounts on its fabulous products from leashes to shampoos to apparel for animal lovers. Finally, to capture all of the incredible memories of each family’s first moments with their new, furry friend, there will be a photo studio on site brought to you by My Perfect Pet Photography.
The Humane Society of Greater Miami is an adoption guarantee shelter that does not euthanize due to time, space or treatable medical issues; so many of the resident dogs and cats have spent a very long time at the Soffer and Fine Adoption Center and have yet to find a forever home. Clear the Shelters day offers these long-timers, as well as all of the other pets of the shelter, a special opportunity for a chance at being united with their lifetime, human companions. It is the perfect day to drop by the shelter and be a hero while enriching your life with unconditional love!
