Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins announces the second annual Pathways to Prosperity event, set to take place on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the Dennis C. Moss Cultural Arts Center. This year’s event, themed “Doing Business with Miami-Dade County,” will feature a comprehensive presentation by Namita Uppal, Miami-Dade County’s Director of Procurement, on how businesses can successfully engage with the county’s procurement process.

Following the presentation, there will be a dynamic panel discussion featuring Director Namita Uppal, Gary T. Hartfield, Small Business Development Director; Leighton Brown, General Contractor/Real Estate Developer of the LCN Group; and Robert Tyler, President of IGWT Construction, Inc. These distinguished panelists will share their expertise and experiences, offering valuable insights on navigating the county’s procurement landscape.

“Miami-Dade County’s annual budget is approximately $12 billion, and a significant portion of this is dedicated to the procurement of goods and services to meet the diverse needs of our community,” said Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins. “Black Business Month is a time to highlight and support Black-owned businesses, making the connection to resources and opportunities that enable them to thrive in our local economy. This event is a step toward fostering greater inclusivity and economic empowerment within our county.”

In addition to the presentation and panel discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a resource fair, designed to provide hands-on assistance and networking opportunities. This fair aims to further support businesses in their journey to secure county contracts, offering them the tools and connections needed to succeed.

This event is part of Commissioner Cohen Higgins’ ongoing commitment to empowering local businesses and fostering economic growth in Miami-Dade County.
