On March 2, the County Commission approved a resolution sponsored by Commissioner McGhee to begin the process of planning for the creation of dog parks at Ferguson Park and Homestead Air Reserve Park. The resolution directs the County administration to present a report to the Commission within 90 days that includes a construction plan and identifies funding for the two facilities, as well as any potential obstacles to their construction.
“There currently are no County-operated dog parks in District 9. South Dade dog owners would greatly benefit from dog parks that do not require travel to other parts of the county,” Commissioner McGhee said. “Dog parks provide a safe space for dogs to exercise, give owners an opportunity to be physically active alongside their pets, and promote a sense of community among dog lovers!”
The 7-acre Ferguson Park is located at the corner of Southwest 146th Street and 103rd Avenue. Homestead Air Reserve Park located at 27401 SW New York Ave. in Homestead.
