As a member of The Pineapple Ladies of Homestead Hospital Foundation, Councilwoman Judy Waldman would like to reach out to her hometown constituency to share in a truly special evening. On Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 6pm-10pm, the Championship Taste, the highly anticipated charity function of the season whose proceeds benefit children in need of immediate medical attention, will take place at the Homestead-Miami Speedway during NASCAR week. Councilwoman Waldman would like to encourage all those who can to attend, provide sponsorship, donate items to the auction or enter a signature dish (restaurants only) to tantalize the guest’s palates. The Taste, formerly known as the Pineapple Gala, has transformed into a grand event with examples of the very best culinary offerings from restaurants across South Florida who come together to make a difference in the lives of children who are rushed to the emergency room for medical care.
How?
The Homestead Hospital Foundation, in conjunction with the NASCAR Foundation, have teamed up to benefit Homestead Hospital’s Betty Jane France Children’s Emergency Center, otherwise known as the Speediatrics Unit. The Speediatrics Unit, aptly named due to its colorful, motorsports motif, opened in 2007 and the number of children cared for annually has nearly tripled to 30,000 with only 9 beds since then. Every year, this event brings in funds to supplement this facility with the beds and medical equipment necessary to ensure that this special pediatrics wing can continue to see to the needs of the children that it serves.
As a precursor to the event, there will be a special Chef’s Table for the Championship Taste kick-off on Thursday, August 21, 2014, 6-9 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz of Cutler Bay, 10701 W 211 Street. All sponsors and restaurant participants will be able to preview the layout and select their preferred seating arrangements.
