Toys will be delivered to children who are victims of human trafficking and domestic violence

The Early Development of Global Education (EDGE) Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, in collaboration with The Hispanic Police Officers Association of Miami-Dade (HPOA) present their 8th Annual Toy Drive. The event will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 4:30 p.m., at Harris Field (located at 1034 N.E. 8th Street, Homestead, FL. 33030).

The EDGE Charitable Foundation will begin collecting unwrapped toys starting on Thursday, November 20th and ending on Wednesday, December 12th. Once all of the unwrapped toys have been collected, they will be transported to Harris Field via a Miami-Dade County Police Command Post Bus. On Wednesday, December 17th, The EDGE board and committee members, HPOA police officers, community leaders and dignitaries, along with local volunteers will gather at the Command Post Bus on the grounds of Harris Field to provide toys to 1,000 children. These children are either victims of human trafficking and domestic violence or they are members of migrant, homeless or low income families in South Florida.

For the third consecutive year, BJ’s Wholesale Club of Cutler Bay (located at 10425 Marlin Road, Cutler Bay, FL. 33157) partnered with The EDGE Foundation’s Toy Drive to display giving tree inside their store. Customers who donate a toy for The EDGE children will receive a $5 BJ’s coupon.

There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony held at 4:30 p.m. to honor all Toy Drive participants and to officially kick off the event. Participating children will enter the bus, meet & greet police officers, choose their favorite toy, and walk out of the bus with a smile and their new toy. For more information on how to donate toys, find nearby participating locations or sponsorship opportunities, email Mercy Hernandez at mercy@theEDGEhelps.com or call 305-298-1763.

About the EDGE Charitable Foundation
Established in 2007, The EDGE Charitable Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization that provides educational, environmental and humanitarian support to children. Today, the EDGE Charitable Foundation has helped more than 20,000 children. In South Florida, 90% of the children impacted by the EDGE continue to work and live in the area where they initially received aid and support. These children are from low income families, migrant families, victims of domestic violence and victims of human trafficking. Through strong community partnerships with schools and businesses, the EDGE Charitable Foundation is able to provide many different services to these children. Those services range from educational opportunities to humanitarian endeavors, such as: Discover: Science and Literacy, EDGE Earth Month Education Campaign, EDGE Annual Toy Drive, EDGE Back to School Drive, EDGE Food Drive, The EDGE Community Service Challenge and Flu Shots for Migrant Families. The organization has also impacted children around the world including Costa Rica, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Nicaragua, Madagascar, Puerto Rico and the United States. Throughout these countries, the EDGE provides children with resources such as school supplies, shoes, clothing, books, toys, water and curriculum support.
