In celebration of Black History Month, Dedications Dance Academy held a live production entitled “All Aboard!! The Story of the Freedom Riders”. The production was held at the Bethel Church in Richmond Heights, Florida from February 27 through March 1. Among the cast members was Homestead Job Corps Center (HJCC) student Justin Marker. This was the first time Justin appeared in a live performance.
“It was interesting and a lot of fun. The people I met were really dedicated to what they love to do…dance, sing, act. I felt honored to portray Jim Zwerg. He was a real person who stood up for what he believed in and he was young…only 21 years old. As a 19 year old from Lehigh Acres, Florida, I never had the opportunity to get involved in something extraordinary like this. It sent such a positive message. Standing up for what you believe in even through hardships is a great message I can relate to. I would definitely do something like this again if I could.”
