As the City of Homestead moves into the heart of spring, the focus at City Hall is shifting toward long-term sustainability and immediate resident protections. From climate planning to digital safety, here is what Homestead residents need to know starting April 7, 2026.
Shaping a Resilient Future On Wednesday, April 8, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the City will host a Comprehensive Vulnerability Assessment at the William F. Dickinson Community Center. This is a high-stakes data-gathering session where residents are encouraged to “map out” their experiences with localized flooding, wind damage, and extreme heat. The feedback collected will directly influence how the city prioritizes multi-million dollar infrastructure grants intended to harden water treatment plants and major transportation corridors against the elements for the next several decades.
Federal Funding and Community Growth On Thursday, April 9, at 6:00 PM, the City will hold a virtual public hearing regarding the FY 2026-2027 Annual Action Plan. This session is the community’s primary opportunity to weigh in on how federal HUD funds—which support neighborhood improvements and housing assistance—are distributed.
Protecting Your Pocketbook: Utility Scam Alert Homestead Public Services (HPS) has issued a “Red Alert” regarding a sophisticated phone scam targeting local households. Fraudulent callers have been “cloning” the official HPS customer service number to trick residents into believing they are speaking with city officials. The scammers typically claim an account is past due and demand immediate payment via credit card or digital apps. City officials remind the community: Homestead will never call you to request credit card information or immediate payment over the phone.
