Homestead Job Corps Center Recognized for Outstanding Community Partnership

The U.S. Dept. of Labor’s Job Corps program celebrated its 50 year anniversary in 2014. One of 125 Job Corps centers throughout the country, Homestead Job Corps Center, founded in 1999 with its first graduating class in 2000, took part in the festivities. Most notably, over thirty community service projects were performed by Homestead Job Corps Center students and staff in 2014 as a way of “looking forward, giving back.”

As Job Corps completes its 50th year of helping millions of young people learn the skills they need to become contributors to the workforce, their communities and the tax base, I am extremely proud of what Homestead Job Corps Center has accomplished. With the support of so many community partners, employers and our Center staff, Homestead Job Corps Center proudly serves approximately 900 youth each year assisting them reach their potential,” stated Luis Cerezo, Center Director.

As our way of showing appreciation to Homestead Job Corps Center, the South West Advisory Board and the Homestead/Florida City Community Relations Board unanimously agreed to recognize the Center for their outstanding community partnership at the cities’ upcoming Martin Luther King breakfast on January 16, 2015” said vice chair for the Homestead/Florida City Community Relations Board Romanita Ford when sharing the good news. “Community involvement and service are a big part of our students’ success and we will accept this award on behalf of the students” Cerezo said.

Job Corps works by providing disadvantaged youth with the social, academic and vocational skill training they need to be successful in their chosen career. Year in and year out, for the past 50 years, the Job Corps program has been a beacon of hope and opportunity for over 2.7 million young people. Students gain the skills and credentials employers need and that helps them succeed. With Job Corps centers in 48 states and Puerto Rico, the program has launched young people on successful careers and strengthened communities. Its impact is immense.
