With only days left in this Special Election…
During my time on the campaign trail, I personally knocked on over 1,000 doors and made over 1,000 phone calls. You can live somewhere your entire life, but won’t fully experience it until you’ve visited every neighborhood and walked down every street.
I was surprised by both the unique issues in each neighborhood as well as the universal concerns of the city as a whole. This incredible experience has strengthened my resolve to serve the city that I love and to make it better for the near and long term. As this part of the journey culminates Tuesday, April 20th at City Hall, my top priorities are as follows:
- Maintaining our small town feel while being centrally located in one of the most populous counties in the country is a challenge I am more confident than ever we can take on. The ubiquitous desire among residents to maintain quiet, neighborly residential areas enhanced with parks and green space, provides clear guidance on how to improve quality of life and the importance of keeping height and density in check.
- The overwhelming consensus among residents to re-energize our Downtown with smart development, creative infrastructure solutions, and strategic marketing provides us with a clear path forward to break through decades of growth gridlock. Residents want our Downtown and Shops at Sunset Place to be a source of pride and something that positively adds to the overall South Miami experience.
- Another major source of pride among residents stems from our progressive policies on the environment, including alternative energy ordinances, meeting our goals for carbon reduction, and continuing to create more green space. Pushing an assertive environmental agenda can ensure the welfare of South Miami and beyond.
- South Miami’s most precious resources are our long-term multi-generational residents. They preserve our history, reinforce our character, and are the collective soul of our community. Continuing to provide affordable entry-level housing will ensure the South Miami experience can be passed from generation to generation.
The most incredible part about visiting my fellow South Miamians has been seeing we share the same love for this city. Our residents enjoy living here and know it’s a special place.
I’m an energetic, hardworking member of this community who is curious and collaborative. I look forward to knocking on the same doors and more as your Commissioner, because our true strength is behind each of these doors. I know we can channel productive positivity, build consensus, and work together for a better South Miami. I hope to have this opportunity to serve you, your family, and our beautiful city.
