“No new taxes or service fee increases in the last three years, three new high schools, free trolley service, new hotels, and a new recycling program. I have delivered on my promises to you!” said Mayor Bateman as he addressed over 300 people during his re-election kickoff event on May 30, 2013 at the Keys Gate Golf & Country Club. Mayor Bateman is seeking his third term as City of Homestead Mayor.
The kickoff event was produced as a community meet and greet. There was a strong show of support from a wide range of elected officials which included U.S. Congressman Joe Garcia, Senator Gwen Margolis, State Representative Kionnee McGhee, and former Homestead Mayor Roscoe Warren.
All voiced their genuine enthusiasm for Mayor Bateman and his accomplishments as Homestead’s Mayor. Representative McGhee referred to Mayor Bateman as “My Mayor” several times throughout his speech stating that “Mayor Bateman is an individual who does not stop until the work is done.”
A true representation of Homestead’s rich culture and diversity attended the event. Local students, senior citizens, civic groups, business leaders, religious and community leaders, and a multitude of Homestead residents from all walks of life enthusiastically waved American flags as Mayor Bateman described his vision for the City’s future.
“The City now enjoys a reputation for beautification, business-friendliness, and education initiatives thanks to this Mayor and Council. We have worked hard for you create opportunities for the City’s overall growth,” Mayor Bateman stated. Immediately after the program, people stood in line patiently as they waited for the opportunity to share words with the Mayor and take a picture with him.
In closing, Mayor Bateman stated, “We’ve come a long way, but we still have a long way to go. Allow me two more years as your Mayor to continue the progress.”
