Palace Gardens Residents Help 30 South-Dade Students Start School Ready to Succeed

Residents of The Palace Gardens turned their creativity into an opportunity to help local children start the new school year prepared and excited to learn.
The assisted living and memory care community recently hosted its 5th Annual Back-to-School Celebration, providing 30 South-Dade students with backpacks filled with essential school supplies, including tablets.
What made the celebration especially meaningful was the role Palace Gardens residents played in making it possible. Throughout the year, residents created ceramic artwork and other handcrafted pieces, which were sold to raise funds for the school supplies and tablets.
The celebration brought the students, families, residents and community leaders together for an afternoon that included ice cream, an indoor playground, sports and other activities.
“This is a wonderful example of the difference our residents continue to make beyond the walls of our community,” said Viviana Simoes, General Manager of The Palace Gardens. “They put their time and creativity into raising these funds because they wanted these children to have what they needed to begin the school year with confidence. Seeing everyone come together for the celebration made it even more meaningful.”
The event was held in partnership with This Is for the Kids, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Homestead Councilman Larry Roth, with support from Terrie Dawkins of Mud Puddle Ceramics & Supplies, LLC.
Jacob Shaham, owner of The Palace Group, joined residents and community leaders for the celebration. The City of Homestead was represented by Mayor Steve D. Losner, Councilman Roth, Councilwoman Kim Konsky, city officials and members of the Homestead Police Department leadership.
The annual event reflects The Palace Gardens’ commitment to creating opportunities for residents to remain engaged, contribute their talents and make a meaningful impact in the greater community.
