Did you know that Homestead Main Street is celebrating Mardi Gras in March? Due to an unfortunate timing of Mardi Gras and Valentine’s Day falling on the same weekend, the Main Street team decided to push the festivities forward a month. Helping to get the word out, a colorful mural was painted on Losner stage by Ms. April Sharpe and her students, Elyssa Llanso (grade 12), Jaime Arreola (class of 2014), and Kristian Quintana (grade 10). All 3 students live in the Homestead/Florida City area and attend Robert Morgan Educational Center. Main Street received permission from the City of Homestead Park and Rec department and will restore the backdrop to its original gray following the festival.
This coming Saturday, the Main Street Mardi Gras festivities begin at 4:00 p.m. in the downtown Historic District of Homestead, the parade up Krome Avenue (starting below Mowry and ending at NW 4th Street) begins at 6:00 p.m. There is an amazing assortment of talent appearing on Losner stage throughout the evening: “Mr. Tobacco Road” Pat De Leon; Juke; The Oski Foundation, Eric Vick Band and Above the Skyline. The authentic Cajun Crawfish Boil and Gumbo will be prepared by Rosey Baby’s Restaurant.
