Cub Scout Pack 69 reached out to “Spread the Cheer” of the holidays to residents at The Palace Gardens. The scouts brought homemade holiday cards to residents, sang Christmas carols and enjoyed hot chocolate and Christmas cookies together.
“These types of intergenerational activities benefit young and old alike,” said Giulia Covella, executive director of the assisted living and memory care community in Homestead. “It’s especially meaningful during the holidays to have youngsters visit. Experiencing the children’s joy is heartwarming for residents who may not regularly see their grandchildren and great-grands.”
The Palace strives to bridge the gap between generations at all Palace communities by welcoming neighborhood schools and organizations throughout the year. One of The Palace Gardens’ residents, Maggie Diffee, had one of her great-grandsons in the Pack, and he was excited to sing for great-grandma and her friends. She was thrilled to show him off to her neighbors.
“The interactions help alleviate fears children may have of older adults, while the time spent together helps invigorate and energies the residents,” added Covella. “After children visit, there’s always more smiles and laughter.”
