Local organizations play a crucial role in addressing food insecurity and supporting those in need, such as the Homestead Soup Kitchen. Recognizing the critical that this non-profit organization plays in the community, Mayor and Council made a $10,000 donation to this long-standing Homestead institution. At the August Special Council Presentation, the Homestead Soup Kitchen received a generous donation from the City of Homestead and the Rotary Club of Homestead. This contribution is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to support local non-profit organizations that make a significant impact on the community.

As part of the City’s annual budget process, the decision was made to choose a deserving service organization to support. This year, the Homestead Soup Kitchen was selected for its unwavering dedication to feeding those in need. For over 41 years, the Homestead Soup Kitchen has been a cornerstone in the community, providing over 40,000 meals annually to individuals and families facing food insecurity.

During the presentation, City officials praised the Soup Kitchen’s efforts and recognized the hard work of its volunteers who operate solely on a volunteer basis. The sizeable donation was presented to the Homestead Soup Kitchen team, including key volunteers who were in attendance.

In addition to the City’s contribution, the Rotary Club of Homestead also made a significant donation of $2,000 to the Homestead Soup Kitchen. The Rodeo Club of Homestead has been a long-time supporter of the Soup Kitchen and was even instrumental in the beginning of the organization through funding and administrative support.

The City of Homestead and the Rotary Club’s donations are a testament to the community’s commitment to supporting local organizations that provide essential services. The Homestead Soup Kitchen will use these funds to continue its mission of feeding the hungry and serving those in need.
