Acknowledging the importance of philanthropic support for investigator-initiated research in healthcare, CC Homes, one of South Florida’s largest home builders led by Jim Carr and Armando Codina, has contributed $1 million to Baptist Health Foundation. This gift will be divided among the following Baptist Health Centers of Excellence: Miami Cancer Institute, Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, Miami Neuroscience Institute and Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute. The gift will also serve as a challenge grant to inspire other funders to invest in transforming the future of healthcare in South Florida.

With more than 350 open clinical trials and studies, Baptist Health is quickly becoming a leader in research in South Florida and beyond. Many of the trials are conducted at Miami Cancer Institute, and this donation will support cutting-edge breakthroughs in immunotherapy and stem cell therapy. Philanthropy is also paving the way for research at Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, supporting the Vision for Discovery and Innovation campaign, which represents the Institute’s focus on research trials to advance new treatments, devices and methods to improve patient outcomes. At Miami Neuroscience Institute, donor support is being used to fund endowments to help recruit top talent and foster a transformation research structure that will help advance innovative studies and compassionate care for patients. Philanthropy has been key in supporting the Outcomes-Based Electronic Research Database (OBERD) program at Miami Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute, which utilizes patient intelligence software that transforms patient feedback and objective clinical data into insights to help improve patient outcomes.

Current Baptist Health Board Chair Jim Carr explained the reason for the company’s generous donation. “I’ve been involved with Baptist Health for over 30 years and have had the great pleasure of watching it grow into a nationally recognized healthcare system. With its Centers of Excellence, it is addressing and influencing how we treat serious diseases. We have also had the great fortune to meet many of Baptist Health’s physicians and researchers, and understand that philanthropy is the fuel that ignites these ideas and novel research programs. This is why we are so proud to make this gift and invite others to join us and help match our investment.”

“We are tremendously grateful for this generous gift and commitment to our mission,” said Baptist Health CEO Brian E. Keeley. “As a non-profit organization, we rely on philanthropy to power our progress, and support of this magnitude is instrumental in achieving our long-term research goals. As a challenge grant, these funds will go even further in helping our physicians and researchers deepen their understanding of disease, develop treatments, improve outcomes and save lives.” Individuals and organizations interested in supporting the CC Homes challenge grant with a matching gift may contact Baptist Health Foundation CEO Alex Villoch at AlexVi@BaptistHealth.net or 786-467-5400 for more information.
