For nearly 40 years, Deli Lane Café & Sunset Tavern has been a go-to gathering place in South Miami, known for its relaxed vibe, delicious comfort food and strong ties to the local community. Now, with the building it has long occupied scheduled for demolition, the restaurant is preparing to move – but fear not, it’s not going far.
Owner Jahn Kirchoff confirms the next chapter: the beloved café and tavern will relocate just across the driveway in summer 2026 into the historic Dorn Building at the corner of Sunset Drive and US 1. It’s a move that honors Deli Lane’s history while charting a fresh path ahead.
“Recent headlines sparked a wave of emotion from our incredible community, and we wanted to take a moment to set the record straight: Yes, the building that Deli Lane and Sunset Tavern have called home for over 35 years will be demolished. But no, we aren’t going anywhere,” said Kirchoff.
“What we will be doing is relocating across our driveway to our new home in summer of 2026, bringing Deli Lane Cafe & Tavern with us into an exciting new chapter. This move gives us the chance to take everything you know and love—our laid‑back vibe, comforting eats, and neighborhood feel—and carry it forward with fresh energy in the historic Dorn Building on the corner of Sunset Dr and US 1.”
Deli Lane has grown alongside South Miami. From its humble beginnings in 1988 to becoming a nearly 40‑year institution, this establishment has become a setting for ordinary moments that become memories. Now, as it moves into a vintage landmark, its story continues without skipping a beat.
“Deli Lane has always been more than a location, it is part of the community. A place to gather, to celebrate, to laugh over breakfast, lunch, dinner or wind down over happy hour. That spirit isn’t going away, it’s moving with us. We will literally be in our current location one day, and open in the new one the next,” Kirchoff added.
While the physical space shifts, everything that makes Deli Lane a community staple remains intact: familiar faces behind the counter, the recipes that feel like home, and the atmosphere that feels like belonging.
“Until then, our doors are open and our tables and staff are ready. As always, still here, still serving, and forever grateful for the community that’s made Deli Lane a South Miami institution,” Kirchoff closed.
