Retiring after more than 48 years of service with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), Baker has occupied many different roles within the M-DCPS Information Technology (IT) Department since 1976. Starting as a computer operator while still attending Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High School, ultimately advancing to an IT developer and project leader, Baker has provided support and has participated in critical system upgrades throughout the school district.
Some of these include IT support and projects in food and nutrition, transportation, maintenance management, inventory management, warehouse management, risk management, property management, capital construction, finance, payroll, human resources, budget management, and various instructional technology initiatives.
As a district IT leader, Baker collaborated with nearly every department in the district, drawing on his experience as a computer operator, software developer, project leader, and department leader. This journey of growth and achievement culminated in his appointment as chief information officer (CIO), championing innovation and operational excellence.
As CIO, Baker saw the district through significant challenges, including cyberattacks, COVID-19 pandemic, transition to remote learning, exponential increase in the use of wireless devices, and expansion of the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
As a graduate of Miami-Dade College and Florida International University and a proud product of Miami- Dade County Public Schools, Baker has humbly expressed his gratefulness and appreciation to M-DCPS providing him with many opportunities that ultimately shaped him through his professional career.
As Baker retires, after an incredible 48-plus years of service to M-DCPS, the board expressed its deepest gratitude for his unwavering dedication and countless contributions.
His expertise, innovation, and steadfast support have been the backbone of the district’s technological advancements, empowering both students and staff to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital age.
