Riviera Schools delivered hundreds of toys and infant needs to the Chapman Homeless Assistance Center in Homestead and also to underprivileged elementary school students in South Miami-Dade.
Student Government representatives and National Elementary Honor Society members from Riviera Day School collected more than 850 toys, all donated by Riviera families, and distributed them to select needy children in preschool through third grade.
“Our students were grateful for the opportunity to help others. We’re also excited knowing that the children enjoyed dancing and singing with our troup of elves, reindeer, candy canes, Santas, and menorahs,” stated Betty Johnson, Riviera Day School’s Student Government faculty advisor.
Through the efforts of Riviera Preparatory School’s Student Government, more than 1,000 toys and infant needs were donated by the student body and delivered to the Chapman Partnership Homeless Assistance Center in Homestead.Additional funds were collected and given to the center.
Chapman Partnership is the private sector partner of the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust and operates two homeless assistance centers with 800 beds located in Miami and Homestead.
“This year’s response by our students has been overwhelming,” said Riviera Preparatory’s Student Government faculty advisor Matthew Jordan. “Riviera Schools not only strives for academic excellence but also prides itself in forming students who are community-service oriented.”
