For five consecutive years, concessionaires of the 68th annual Youth Fair & Exposition are coming together to organize the fifth annual Red Thornberry & Miami-Dade Youth Fair Scholarship Fund Golf Classic, as well as the fifth annual Surf ‘N Turf Fest on Monday, Apr. 1.
The Red Thornberry & Miami-Dade County Youth Fair Scholarship Fund Golf Classic will begin at 10 a.m. at the beautiful International Links Miami-Melreese Golf Course, located at 1802 NW 37 Ave. The event will feature a scramble format golf tournament featuring 18 holes of championship golf, boxed lunch, fun bag for all players and door prizes.
The golf tournament was named in memory of Red Thornberry, who was a game vendor at the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair Exposition beginning in 1993. Thornberry began his career in the game industry in 1947 and especially loved the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair. His son, Billy Thornberry, now carries on in his father’s footsteps as one of the Youth Fair’s current game vendors.
Following the golf tournament, the Surf ‘N Turf Fest will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. on the Fairgrounds at Netterfield’s Food Court located at 10901 Coral Way. The Surf ‘N Turf Fest will include a lobster and steak dinner, live music and great company. The cost is $40 per person.

Both events are sponsored by the men and women who are part of the 2019 Youth Fair Concessionaires’ Team, whose goal is to give back to the Miami-Dade County community and assist in the mission to support education, showcase youth achievement and promote Miami-Dade County’s agriculture industry. All net proceeds benefit the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair & Exposition’s Scholarship Fund.
