South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center presents two spectacular jazz groups as part of its Cabaret Series, “Rhythms of Gypsy Jazz: A Night on The Orient Express” performed by The French Horn on Friday, Oct. 17, at 8:30 p.m., and Fred Hersch Trio on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

The French Horn members create the driving force behind their music with their uninhibited blending styles and creativity. Their musical roots range from jazz, ska, to polka. The band produces a surprisingly smooth mixture of progressive Gypsy/ Parisian/Circus-vibe/Swing/ World Beat tunes.
The French Horn performs regularly with the Miami Nice Jazz Festival. The group also performs at the Fillmore Miami Beach, Buena Vista Bistro, Soyka Restaurant Bar and Lounge, Lagniappe House, and Moreno’s Cuban Bar, among other restaurants and venues.
Proclaimed by Vanity Fair magazine, “the most arrestingly innovative pianist in jazz over the last decade or so,” Six-time Grammy nominee Fred Hersch balances his internationally recognized instrumental skills with significant achievements as a composer, bandleader, and theatrical conceptualist, as well as remaining an in-demand collaborator with other noted bandleaders and vocalists. The New York Times calls Hersch’s recent album, Floating, “extravagantly beautiful.”
The Cabaret Series takes place in the intimate Black Box Theater space which seats up to 130 people. The series includes jazz, string groups, flamenco, comedy, burlesque, jazz, Broadway show tunes and soulful singers. The lounge setting has table seating, food, drinks and a relaxed atmosphere.
