Former South Miami Mayor Horace Feliu was unanimously elected as President-Elect of the South Miami Rotary Club. Current President Doreen Reitnauer made the announcement at Carraba’s where the club holds its weekly meeting.
The Rotary Club of South Miami, which was chartered on April 12, 1950, has long been a supporter of giving back to the community from yearly local scholarships to leading the fight against polio.
The former Mayor who has been a Rotarian for the past eight years has been widely credited for his leadership and vision in many of the positive changes that has occurred in South Miami. During his time in office, South Miami enjoyed an unprecedented number of beautification projects from streetscapes such as the one in front of City Hall to the building of the city’s Gibson Bethel Community Center. Under his leadership, Feliu established the city’s first municipal parking garage which has been attributed in creating a renaissance in the Town Center. The city’s municipal parking garage houses Carrabas, the current location of the club’s meetings.
“It is an honor for me to have been elected to serve as president particularly and especially by a group of highly dedicated and educated individuals who are leaders in their own professions. I will however depend greatly on our current President, Doreen Reitnauer and other members who have much more knowledge and experience in making my year as president a success,” stated Feliu.
